Senate Session 2011:

The Young Senators' Society is a well-reputed organization of SZABIST, which is honored to take part in the "Extravaganza 2011" event. On our part, we will be hosting our hugely popular occasion, named "The Senate Session 2011". The origin of this occasion is dated back to the previous semester. We, the Young Senators' Society, had drafted and subsequently passed the official legislature that governs the club presently. Alongside, we had explored an in depth look at current affairs of the country and hence created legal documents that aimed to improve the unpleasant conditions of Pakistan. Please glance at the extensive plan for further details for the occasion and what we are preparing to do for the interests of all those who have the righteous intentions of making this nation a better place in the future (right below). We encourage everyone to take part in this truly momentous occasion and pray that you see the vision that we hope to portray that is of prosperity and a brighter future for our beloved nation.
The Senate Session 2011 will be arranged for the express purpose of understanding the issues that we, as an entire state, are facing recently. We then aim to present a set of solutions, in the form of a legal legislation (a bill) over each discussed issue that shall result in the constructive growth of our homeland. Currently, for the Senate session 2011 we have decided to target two important topics which are the Media and the Judiciary. Each of the two days (a four hours long session) is dedicated to each topic and at the end of each day Chief Guests from their respective fields will be invited to join us and give their expert opinions about the affairs. A discrete and tentative scheme for the event is as stated:
1. Day 1 (Media):
We shall begin with an introduction and oath of all the participants as it's the first day, then we shall move on with a deliberation of the topic which is the Media in Pakistan; its role and respective responsibilities. Each participant (who had previously presented a proposal for the notion) will then be given the stage to express their point of concern and views. After that the house (forum) will be open for the discussions and debate over the points mentioned by individuals. By the end of this day we will be having a set of problems and their possible solution that will later be written in the form of a bill. The bill will exclusively include all aspects of the Media circuit of Pakistan.
2. Day 2 (Judiciary):
Once more, for the second day, we shall begin with an introduction and oath of all the participants as will be done in the first day, then we shall move on with a deliberation of the topic which is the Judiciary of Pakistan; its role and respective responsibilities. Each participant (who previously presented a proposal for the motion) will then be given the stage to express their point of concern and views. After that the house (forum) will be open for the discussions and debate over the points mentioned by individuals. By the end of the second day, we will be having a set of problems and their possible solutions that will later be written in the form of a bill which will be specifically concentrated on the judicial future of Pakistan.

Rhythm of Sufi:

The Young Senators' Society seeks to promote the astoundingly vast local (and cultural) identity of Pakistan by encouraging people of the present era to acknowledge the magic of their ancestors' creations. Only when we are aware of our past, shall we move forward towards our future which, just like the beautiful message of Sufis, is pleasant and bright. Hence, please join us in making this momentous event a successful recreation of the mystical Sufi mores.
It is with great honor that the Young Senators' Society in collaboration with PMM brings forth an auspicious event dedicated to the pure love of traditional Sufi culture. The event which is named the "Rhythm of Sufi"; is going to be an unforgettable experience for the audience who will be given the opportunity to envision one of the most sensational Sufi bands perform live on stage.
"The Sketches" who have sung great cultural masterpieces such as "Maujood", "Kaanton Ki Deewaren" "Moomal Rano - A Famous Folk Tale of Sindh" and "Dastkari".
So, allow them to take your soul on a mystical journey of classical Sufi rhythms with an exquisite blend of modern day rock beats. The event will take place on the 15th of January 2011 at the 100 Campus of SZABIST.

The Interactive Discussion for BBC Pakistan's Program:

The last event which the Young Senators' Society took part in was the interactive discussion session for a program sponsored by BBC Pakistan. Like in the Karachi Youth Assembly, a delegation was set up, consisting of three members. They were told to arrive at the 90 Campus of SZABIST and to welcome the television crew when they arrive. The show began at 3:00pm and continued on till 3:40pm. There were a total of 12 participates, 3 of which were affiliated with this club. The crew asked questions about the future of Pakistan with regard to political and socio-economic conditions.
All of the participants were exceptional and gave very intellectual reasoning in the context of the topic. The Young Senators' Society delegates concentrated on the aspects that they had covered in the Internal Senate - Constitutional Session but were also able to give individual responses to certain questions. It was a well-organized affair with no difficulties and it was a proud moment for the society when our fellow members gave such candid opinions about the current situation of Pakistan.

Beach Fiesta Twenty Ten (The Annual Beach Picnic Trip):

Since all of the members had worked so hard, it was decided that it would be a great idea if an out-door event was organized which would be both fun and memorable. The Young Senators' Society thought that a wonderful beach picnic trip* should be arranged. Hence, with the collaborated efforts of many of the members, a final plan was made. As discussed in an official club meeting, the annual beach trip was held on the 8th of December 2010 and it proved to be an exciting and enjoyable event.
The total amount of students who attended this event was 45; some of them were members while others were close colleagues/friends of those members. The attendees arrived at the campus (SZABIST) at 10:30am and subsequently left for Masroor Base at exactly 11:30am. Being the casual occasion that it was, people enjoyed themselves during the long trip by listening to music, singing songs, telling jokes, laughing and basically just having a fun time. Once the convoy of passengers crossed the base, they headed straight for the Sand-spit beach. All security and hut arrangements were made beforehand so that there would be no problem on arrival. It was 12:30pm when the buses arrived at their destination. People unpacked the luggage, talked for a while and then started playing cricket on the sea shore. At 3:00pm, the lunch was served; a delicate array of food items and beverages. After lunch, everyone just relaxed and enjoyed the pleasant scenery of the beach. Later a bon fire was set up, people gathered around it while talking to each other. Tea was served to all during this time. Finally, at 8:00pm everybody started wrapping up everything back into the buses and soon after they were on their way back to the institute. At 9:00pm the crowd reached back to SZABIST and from there everybody decided to go back home.
It was an informal event but was just as vital to the society as were the formal events. It was only obvious that everyone needed a break, a time off from their difficult and busy schedules; to be able to enjoy a trip to the beach with their friends. This trip gave an instantaneous boost to their moral and refreshed them so that they can now tackle the work needed to be done later on in the next semester.

The Karachi Youth Assembly:

It was a great honor to have been invited to the fourth Session of the Karachi Youth Assembly. The function was held on the 4th of December 2010, at Radio Pakistan Auditorium, near Civic Center in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The chief guest for this event was a well renowned expert in his field. A respectable delegation of six members from the Young Senators' Society was sent. They were capable of understanding the discussions that took place there and hence gave an excellent report of the whole event. It was an astounding experience and one which the delegation vowed never to forget. In addition, the members also participated in the question and answer session of the event. It had started at 5:00pm and ended at 8:00pm after which they had arranged dinner for all the guests and participants. The debates were carried out in the official language; Urdu, as was the entire event. The main topic was the fundamental factors, which if changed, can result in a better future for Pakistan.

Internal Senate 2010 - Constitutional Session:

The Internal Senate – Constitutional Session 2010* was the main event for this semester. The event took place on the 13th of November 2010 at 3:00pm in the 90 campus' Auditorium; SZABIST. There were dual purposes for organizing this event; the first was to formally introduce the Constitution of the Young Senators' Society to the members and the general public. The second was to deliberate on the important issues which this country is facing and hence make a legislature that would try to resolve those issues. A chief guest was also invited and treated with honor, gratitude and humbleness. He was the respectable Senator; Mr. Ahmed Ali. He had given a lot of valuable insight on each of the topic discussed in the session. There was a significant gathering for the event and was also able to end promptly at the time given which was 6:00pm.
It was very vital for a Society that was built under the principles of a justice system to have a firm constitution whereby members and the executive body should be governed. Hence, the official Constitution for the Young Senators' Society was created by the Legal team of the club. The clauses of the bill included every aspect of the club's management. On the day of the orientation, it was announced that such a bill is being worked on. Later, during the third meeting a final draft was issued and discussed in front of the members. With certain amendments made, the Bill was agreed upon by a two-third majority. On the day of the session, the final bill was presented and unanimously accepted by all the members of the society. The acceptance gave way to the implementation of the Constitution; currently it is the legal frame work that administrates the society functionalities.
The issues in question were divided into three major sections; Finance, Foreign and Interior. Each of these sections had a separate legislative Bill; presented and passed on the day of the session. The Finance sector dealt with the economical status of Pakistan with regard to the world market. It concentrated on issues such as the current export and import analyses, the stock exchange and the Gross Domestic Product values within different areas of Pakistan. The Foreign sector was affiliated with the Foreign policy practiced by Pakistan with relations to other countries. For this specific event, the main focus was laid on Pakistan's relations with the United Nations (U.N) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) due to the fact that these two organizations are the ones which influenced the country's policies the most. Lastly, the Interior sector was associated with the internal affairs of Pakistan. The unfavorable circumstances by which many civilians are troubled were the main theme of the bill.
All in all, the event was a success in many ways and the Young Senators' Society was able to fully accomplish the tasks it had set out to do.

The Recruitment Process [September 2010]:

It is the society's duty to encourage more and more people, especially interested candidates, to apply for a membership in the Young Senators' Society because by guiding the next generation of leaders towards the right path, we aim to help make a better future for Pakistan. The recruitment process for this year's fall semester started on 15th September 2010 and was concluded by 30th September 2010. After all the applications for new recruits were registered and filled in, it was the task of the governing body (executive body) to short list the applicants according to the material written in the forms. The questions in the questionnaire revolved around the different aspects of social life in this country. The applicants were required to express their opinions of certain current affairs and to write about their dynamism and other unique qualities (which could be used for the club in a positive aspect).
Afterwards, these candidates were called upon to be interviewed by a panel of judges (consisting of the Executive body members) for their individual evaluation. The interview questions were mostly based on the answers they had given in the written questionnaire. Lastly, after a week's time of appraisal, a final list of 30 new recruits was created and duly published. All new members were notified of their confirmation and were invited to the 'orientation session' which was held on 25th of October 2010 (Monday) at 5:00pm in the 100 Campus of SZABIST. Here, the new recruits were given a briefing about the aims and objectives of the Young Senators' Society and were told to take the official oath to affirm their membership in an official manner.

Independence Day 2010 [The screening of the movie "Jinnah" (1998)]:

As 14th August 2010 made its way; being an annual celebration of our nation's freedom and prosperity, it was decided by the Young Senators' Society that a documentary-like film should be played in the 90 campus' Auditorium; two days before the actual Independence Day. The reason why it was displayed on the 12th of August 2010 was because the institute (i.e. SZABIST) was officially closed on the 14th and the next best option was the former date. Most of the student body and the faculty members were happy about the date because it was easier to make it to the premiere on time and watch the whole movie. The name of the movie was "Jinnah"*; made in 1998 by director Jamil Dehlavi, starring Christopher Lee as Quaid-E-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
During the brain-storming session, in which many members of the club voiced their opinions on what sort of event should be held with accordance to the Independence Day; it was decided that a tribute should be given to one of the greatest leaders of all time. It was popularly agreed upon that an excellent way of celebrating this memorable day was to allow students and faculty members to envision the efforts and hard work put in by Quaid-E-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah; the Founder of Pakistan. He is an inspiration for every citizen of this country thus it only seemed fitting that we display a movie which was a marvelous tribute in honor of his legacy. The movie screened at exactly 2:30pm and viewed with interest by a large audience (almost 50 people). The event was peacefully carried out with minimal to almost null problems and subsequently wrapped up by 5:00pm. It was an amazing idea to connect the people with an outstanding leader; the man who created a separate homeland for our ancestors and our decedents. It makes one wonder how they can bring a positive change into this country so that it goes from bad to good, good to better and better to best.
The event was the brink of what resulted in a series of other major, successful events. The entire member body was motivated to bring new ideas on the table and to work even harder than before to implement all of those ideas.

A Theater Play:

Pakistan Zindabad is a play organised by the young enthusiasts os Young Senators Club SZABIST. The prime motive of organising this event is to spread the political awareness amongst the youth at SZABIST. The play will portray the problems and issues being faced by common citizens of Pakistan and the possible solutions will be addressed at the event. To beautify the script, a good sense of humour is also added as a major part of the play. The story revolves around the life of a common Pakistan, the lead character, 'Mohsin' who goes through different walks of life.

Internal Senate Session '09:

Young Senators made their mark distinctively on August 18 '2009, for most of the members it was a distant dream that came true, a simulation of an actual Senate session was enacted with the seemingly impressive and gracing presence of the serving speaker of the Sindh Assembly Mr. Nisar Khuhro. This honored session was attended by Szabistians and the members of our exclusive society with utter zeal. Propositions in terms of the actual senate session were made by committee chairs and the floor of the house was open to vote over issues of concern giving it the very feel one could only experience within the premise of the national senate. It certainly was a momentous occurrence of all the participants having a simulated session presided by the speaker of the provincial assembly. The endeavor was the very first and the most enduring event for the Young Senators as they left an indelible mark with their first ever self managed affair which was clearly draped in precision, pomp and protocol of an actual Senate Session.
